In the summer of 2006, when cancer struck close to home, I became very conscientious about toxins in my life and the lives of my family. With three children at home, I wanted to do everything I could to ensure they grew up healthy. I realized that general health and wellness comprises of four elements, all equally important: nutrition, exercise, emotional stability, and living in a clean environment. So, I’ve adjusted the family diet, signed up at a gym, tried to have a bit more fun, and committed myself to a green-lifestyle. Growing up in “the old country, behind the ‘Iron Curtain’”, I remember the shortage of all products, including cleaning supplies. I remember my mother mixing water with vinegar, baking soda, or lemon juice, or simple other ingredients to do the house cleaning. And our home was always sparkling clean! Here I am now, thirty years later, living in the best country in the world where we have everything, and I find myself doing exactly what my mother did: mixing simple ingredients to provide an effective, toxin-free environment for my family. Life is going in a circle… Before long, as my friends became interested too in having a sparkling clean, chemical-free home, Eco Green Home was born. While attending a session on aromatherapy at a Pennsylvania spa, the idea came to me, that if I’m using odor-free cleaners, I can offer my clients aromatherapy during the service and burn natural oils for a healthy fragrance. Further, to make the home cleaning day even more special, our cleaning personnel changes the bed sheets and washes the towels. When our clients open the door coming home, they are welcomed by the refreshing fragrance, freshly made beds, clean towels in the bathroom, and a piece of organic chocolate waiting for them on the bed pillow. In the fast pace of today’s world, these little touches are to make the homes not only clean and toxin-free, but also a bit more special, relaxing and inviting…. It is my hope that the commitment to a green-lifestyle, either because of our health or caring about our planet, will spread around. All of us will benefit. Liz Kulig President |
